How to translate WhatsApp messages on iPhone

Use WhatsApp’s own Translate action when available

WhatsApp has announced message translation for iPhone and describes a long-press, Translate, and language-selection flow. Feature rollout and language availability can vary, so look for the action in the current WhatsApp version instead of relying on an old screenshot.

If the action appears, translate the message in place and compare important details with the original. If it is missing, use the fallback workflow below.

1. Open the WhatsApp chat and find the message.
2. Long-press the message and look for Translate.
3. Choose the language direction shown by WhatsApp.
4. Read the result alongside the original message.
5. Confirm dates, prices, names, and instructions before acting.

Fallback: select or copy the message

If WhatsApp does not show Translate, use the text you can select. iPhone supports translation for selected text in supported apps, and a copy-and-translate path remains useful for a single message. It takes more switching, but it is explicit and easy to inspect.

For text that cannot be selected, use a screenshot or photo workflow. Keep the image readable and avoid sharing more of the conversation than you need.

1. Select or copy the WhatsApp message.
2. Open Translate Us text mode or the iPhone translation action.
3. Choose the source and target languages.
4. Paste or enter the message and inspect the result.
5. Return to WhatsApp and reply only after checking the intended meaning.

Write a translated WhatsApp reply

Translate Us lists a translator keyboard for typing inside another app. Add it through Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards, then Add New Keyboard if Translate Us appears. In WhatsApp, use the globe keyboard switcher, compose a short reply, and inspect the translated text before sending. Some text fields restrict third-party keyboards; use text mode and copy the result if the keyboard is unavailable.

Use short, complete sentences when the topic is important. Keep names, times, and numbers visible in your draft, and ask the recipient to confirm any detail that could be misunderstood.

When the message is a voice note or image

For a voice note, start with a transcript if WhatsApp offers one for your version and language. If you only have audio, try a short segment from a second playback device near the iPhone microphone. Same-iPhone playback and microphone capture can conflict, so that path is not assumed here.

For text inside a photo, save a readable copy and use photo translation. Translate Us lists voice, photo, and camera translation, but this is not evidence that WhatsApp attachments import directly. Ask for a written message if capture or recognition is uncertain.
